Mike de Meza Speaks on Regional Development
Parliamentarian Mike de Meza recently spoke in Parliament regarding the economic development of San Nicolas. During the meeting, which focused on the Refinery, De Meza expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of attention and cooperation towards the southern region of the island.
Criticism of Government Delays
De Meza criticized the government for focusing infrastructure projects in other districts while San Nicolas awaits necessary permits. He mentioned a specific five-star hotel project in Seroe Colorado that is currently pending government approval. According to the parliamentarian, had this project received the necessary attention, it would have created 1,300 jobs and spurred significant growth for the area.
Call for Action in the South
De Meza argued that Aruba’s economy and diversification depend heavily on the development of San Nicolas. He urged the government to move past political differences and facilitate the permits required to boost the local economy and provide employment opportunities for the residents of the south.
