Aruba, often renowned for its beautiful beaches, has much more to offer beyond its sun-soaked shores. Kathryn Williams, a solo traveler, found that the vibrant Caribbean island is a must-visit destination not just for its beaches, but for its unheralded cultural and culinary experiences.
While spending a week on the island, Williams explored rum distilleries and met passionate food producers who employ innovative, sustainable methods. Food lovers will find themselves delighted, as Aruba offers an array of dining choices, ranging from traditional bakeries and creole restaurants to street food and upscale private dining, even meals on the beach. The island boasts a unique blend of Caribbean and Dutch influences, reflecting its rich history.
As an autonomous territory of the Netherlands, Aruba, once colonized by the Dutch in the 17th century, is one of the wealthiest territories in the Caribbean.
During her visit in October, Williams attended the Autentico Culinary Festival, an event that brought together local restaurants and chefs with international guests. At the Ritz Carlton Aruba, she had the opportunity to dine on a special menu curated by Italian-American chef Christian Petroni. This culinary journey was one of the best Aruba culinary experiences she could have asked for.
