ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Mervin Wyatt-Ras, in an interview with Matutino DIARIO, discussed the ongoing issue of Aruba street addiction. He pointed out that the current government, having been in power for only a few months, is working to address the street addiction problem that had been ignored for over seven years.
Wyatt-Ras explained that the previous government removed the possibility of placing street addicts under guardianship, making it much harder for the current administration to find viable solutions. He criticized the lack of attention from previous politicians, adding that while some are quick to complain, no one has offered real solutions.
The Minister emphasized that the government has created a commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, and is learning from Aruba street addiction initiatives in Curacao. He noted that solving this issue will take time, as it has been neglected for years.
