Traffic Safety Law Aruba Debate Urged

The Traffic Safety Law Aruba proposal is once again at the center of political discussion, as Parliamentarian Edgard Vrolijk of the MEP faction is urging Parliament to treat the legislation as soon as possible.

In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Vrolijk emphasized that the initiative law submitted by the MEP faction is fully prepared and ready for debate. The proposed Traffic Safety Law Aruba aims to strengthen road safety and address irresponsible driving behavior that continues to concern the community.

According to Vrolijk, the final report responding to all questions raised by fellow parliamentarians was officially submitted last Tuesday. He explained that every concern and inquiry regarding the Traffic Safety Law Aruba was addressed in detail to ensure clarity and readiness for parliamentary treatment.

“We responded to all the questions parliamentarians asked us regarding the law. We delivered the final report with the hope that, given the urgency of the matter, it would have already been debated last week,” Vrolijk stated.

However, despite expectations, the proposal was not placed on the parliamentary agenda. Vrolijk noted that even during the current week, the law was not scheduled for discussion. Looking ahead, he expressed concern that there may again be no available space on the agenda, as priority appears to be given to committee matters.

The MEP parliamentarian is now making a direct appeal to Parliament President Marlon Sneek to ensure that the Traffic Safety Law Aruba is addressed promptly. Vrolijk pointed out that the Parliament President had previously indicated that the law could be debated within a month, if possible. He stressed that the legislation is ready and that further delay only prolongs what he described as an “odyssey” surrounding the issue.

Vrolijk underlined that the purpose of the Traffic Safety Law Aruba is to increase awareness within the community about irresponsible driving and to create stronger legal tools to enhance road safety. Recent traffic incidents and public concerns about reckless driving have reinforced the importance of swift legislative action.

“The law is ready to be treated. We are calling on the President of Parliament to honor the earlier commitment and ensure that this urgent matter is brought forward,” Vrolijk emphasized.

The debate over the Traffic Safety Law Aruba reflects broader discussions about accountability, public safety, and the role of Parliament in responding efficiently to community concerns. As traffic-related incidents remain a pressing issue, attention now turns to whether Parliament will prioritize the proposal in the coming weeks.
