Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands and keynote speaker Jan Peter Balkenende described the Common Good Conference Aruba as a moment of real inspiration combined with concrete action, rather than just words.

According to Balkenende, the Common Good Conference Aruba successfully brought together theory and practice, giving true meaning to the concept of the common good. He stated that the conference showed clear signs that meaningful change is taking place in Aruba.

“The common good is always important, but today we saw theory combined with practice. This shows that something real is happening in Aruba,” Balkenende said.

He highlighted the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) during the Common Good Conference Aruba as especially significant, noting that these agreements demonstrated that the initiatives discussed were moving beyond talk and into concrete action.

“You can talk about sustainability and values, but the real question is: what will change? Today, I saw change happening,” Balkenende added.

The former Dutch Prime Minister also pointed out that many questions from the audience focused on implementation and how ideas could be translated into real action, reinforcing the practical nature of the Common Good Conference Aruba.

“This was a conference about implementation,” he emphasized.

Balkenende stressed that what is happening in Aruba is not only relevant locally but also important for other islands in the region and countries such as the Netherlands. He emphasized that collaboration and sharing experiences are essential for achieving lasting progress.

He also shared positive feedback about visiting the local initiative exhibition, comparing the experience favorably to similar events he attended in South Korea. According to Balkenende, Aruba has demonstrated strong local initiatives capable of creating meaningful change.

He concluded by congratulating the organizing team and describing the Common Good Conference Aruba as inspiring and highly relevant for the future of society, both locally and internationally.
