The Aruba drink and drive awareness campaign 2026 has gained additional support as SMAC officially joined the public awareness initiative led by Fada and Stichting Zinnia, according to SMAC President Darren van Ommeren. The campaign aims to promote responsible behavior, particularly during the busy Carnival season, while reinforcing the message throughout the entire year.

Van Ommeren stated that SMAC stands behind the campaign’s mission and is helping spread the message across the community, alongside insurance companies that have also joined the cause. The initiative emphasizes road safety during Carnival, a period marked by large gatherings and increased alcohol consumption.

Earlier this week, Fada’s BAR (Bo Amigo Responsabel) initiative and Stichting Zinnia’s Amigo Didi program joined forces to strengthen the “Don’t Drink and Drive” message not only during Carnival but throughout 2026. Van Ommeren highlighted that such campaigns are especially important during Carnival festivities, when social celebrations and alcohol use are more common.

He outlined several practical ways individuals can avoid driving under the influence, including designating a responsible friend who does not drink, using a BAR or Amigo Didi, renting a bus for group transportation, or making use of available transport services to return home safely.

“Go out, enjoy Carnival, support our musicians and participants—but remember your responsibility and do not drive after celebrating,” Van Ommeren urged.

He also noted that Fada and Stichting Zinnia will be given preferred visibility during Carnival parades, allowing them to actively promote awareness and ensure the Aruba drink and drive awareness campaign 2026 reaches the widest possible audience.
