Aruba Turns Orange to End Violence

The Fundacion Contra Violencia Relacional (FCVR), in collaboration with Soroptimist Aruba, CEDEHM, DAS, University of Aruba, and Fundacion Respeta Mi, recently held a press conference to launch the international campaign “Orange the World & 16 Days of Activism”, along with Aruba’s own local awareness campaign starting November 25.

The global Orange the World movement focuses on preventing and combating gender-based violence. Over a period of sixteen days—from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day)—communities around the world unite to promote reflection, education, and action. The color orange symbolizes hope and light, serving as a call to protect human dignity and rights.

For Aruba and its partner organizations, the campaign carries special meaning. Domestic and relationship violence remain serious yet often hidden social issues, concealed by shame or silence. Through collaboration, these organizations aim to open dialogue, foster a culture of mutual respect, and reaffirm that everyone deserves safety and value. The campaign emphasizes prevention, encouraging people to recognize warning signs, seek information, and offer support—key steps toward real change within the community.

During the press conference, organizers presented a calendar of events outlining the various activities planned during the 16 days of activism. The inclusive and wide-ranging program will feature informative presentations, a campaign on digital violence, workshops and discussion sessions, seminars and conferences, film screenings with panel discussions, media training, and other community initiatives across different locations.

Through these activities, the organizations seek not only to raise awareness but also to strengthen community connections. The ultimate goal is to help more people understand where to find help, how to recognize signs of violence, and how to work together toward a safer, fairer, and more compassionate Aruba.

More information on the event calendar and activities will be shared via traditional media, social networks, and the organizations’ online platforms.

Together, we turn Aruba orange. Together, we choose safety, dignity, and equality.
