The Director of WEB Aruba NV, Mr. Alfredo Koolman, announced that since July, the company has been evaluating whether to extend the timeframe for Eagle LNG to obtain its required permits. In an interview with DIARIO, Mr. Koolman explained that this was the third extension granted to Eagle LNG since 2022. After the most recent review, WEB decided not to extend the deadline again.
According to Mr. Koolman, based on the terms of the contract, WEB was fully within its rights to terminate the agreement, as Eagle LNG had failed to secure the necessary permits. The contract has now officially been discontinued.
He emphasized that WEB Aruba NV did not incur financial losses, thanks to the protective conditions included in the agreement.
Mr. Koolman added that WEB still maintains an interest in LNG for the future.
“LNG is a transitional fuel—cleaner than the HFO we currently use. However, at this moment, and in alignment with discussions with our stakeholders, WEB is prioritizing sustainable projects and focusing on wind, solar, and energy storage,” he stated.
