The Watty Vos renovation is progressing satisfactorily, with the first phase of improvements at the Politie Opleidinginstituut Edgar Joaquin (Watty) Vos now approaching completion.
The Government of Aruba said the project forms part of continued investment in strengthening infrastructure within the justice sector.
The institute plays an important role in preparing future members of the Aruba Police Force.
Justice Minister Arthur Dowers said the first phase is nearly complete, allowing training activities to continue in a more modern and functional environment.
The renovation forms part of a broader plan that will be implemented in several phases.
Future stages are also expected to include expansion of the institute’s facilities.
Years of Limited Maintenance
According to Dowers, the condition of the building reflects a prolonged period in which several justice-sector facilities did not receive sufficient maintenance and investment.
He said this challenge is not limited to the police training institute but also affects other buildings falling under the Ministry of Justice.
“Our goal is not only to renovate a building, but to create a dignified and functional environment for the professionals who prepare every day to serve and protect our community,” Dowers said.
Preventive Maintenance Also a Priority
The minister emphasized that completing renovation work alone will not be enough.
He said a continuous maintenance plan must also be implemented to protect public investment and prevent government buildings from deteriorating again over time.
Preventive maintenance, according to Dowers, will be essential for preserving the facilities and ensuring they remain suitable for training and daily operations.
The Watty Vos renovation represents an investment not only in physical infrastructure but also in the future of Aruba’s police force.
By improving the training environment, the government aims to strengthen the preparation of officers who will be responsible for maintaining public safety and providing professional service to the community.
