In a collaborative effort to raise awareness about marine conservation, the Aruba Conservation Foundation (ACF), together with local partners ScubbleBubbles Foundation, University of Aruba, and international partner Wageningen University & Research, is excited to announce that the documentary Turning the Tide will be available for streaming globally. The release coincides with World Oceans Day, celebrated on June 8th.

World Oceans Day highlights the crucial role oceans play in sustaining life and aims to inspire global efforts to protect them. This year’s theme, “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” emphasizes the importance of safeguarding our oceans. Aruba’s own marine environment, a key part of the island’s identity, economy, and future, is a perfect example of the need for protection and sustainable practices. Turning the Tide offers a unique opportunity for both the local community and the global audience to reflect on the importance of preserving Aruba’s natural heritage.

A Documentary with Impact

Filmed over 16 months, Turning the Tide captures the first-of-its-kind pilot project aimed at restoring Aruba’s mangroves and coral reefs. The documentary showcases the beauty of the island’s natural environment while highlighting the intricate and collaborative work involved in ecosystem restoration. Featuring contributions from local, regional, and international experts, the film underscores the urgency of marine conservation.

The film had its premiere in Aruba on January 31, 2025, at The Movies Aruba, where it captivated the local community. During its six-week screening period, it attracted a total of 1,846 viewers—a testament to the strong interest in marine conservation. In addition, ACF organized private screenings for 946 students from various local schools, including Colegio Arubano, Colegio Nigel Matthew, Colegio San Antonio, and others, as part of their educational programs on Aruba’s nature.

Watch Turning the Tide on World Oceans Day

As part of the celebrations for World Oceans Day 2025, ACF invites everyone—from Aruba residents to nature enthusiasts worldwide—to watch Turning the Tide on ACF’s YouTube channel. The documentary is a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting our marine environment and the communities that rely on it.
