Aruba Delays Afl. 50 Million SVB Financing Deal

Aruba has postponed a planned financing agreement of up to Afl. 50 million with the Social Insurance Bank, known as SVB. The arrangement was originally due to begin on August 1, 2026, but the revised start date is September 30.

The change appears in an amendment to the Landsbesluit Financieringsbehoefte 2026-II, published in Aruba’s Official Gazette on September 2.

Three-year agreement gets new start date

The finance minister had already been authorized to enter into a fixed-term deposit agreement with SVB for a maximum of Afl. 50 million. According to the amended decree, the agreement was not concluded on the original August 1 date.

Under the revised schedule, the arrangement will run for three years, from September 30, 2026, through September 29, 2029.

Interest is to be paid quarterly. The first interest payment is scheduled for December 30, 2026. The full principal is due to be repaid in a single payment on September 30, 2029.

What the amendment changes

The reported amendment changes the timing of the financing rather than the maximum authorized amount. It does not indicate that Aruba will obtain more than the previously approved ceiling of Afl. 50 million.

A fixed-term deposit agreement generally commits funds for an agreed period and sets out when interest and principal payments are due. In this case, the published schedule establishes quarterly interest payments and one final repayment of the principal.

The next key date is September 30, when the revised agreement is scheduled to begin. Any further change to the amount, interest terms or start date would require confirmation through an official announcement or a subsequent published decision.
