ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Superior Court (Hof di Corte Superior) has postponed the appeal case of Nelson Speed de Andrade for the second time. The hearing, scheduled for Thursday morning, was delayed after the defendant failed to appear. Speed was represented by new attorneys, Mr. Illes and Mr. Carlo, who took over the case from previous lawyer Mr. Canwood.
The new legal team submitted a written request to postpone the proceedings to allow for adequate preparation, which the Court granted. This marks the second delay in the case; it was previously adjourned in February 2026 at the request of Mr. Canwood because De Andrade was abroad.
The appeal concerns a verdict issued on December 18, 2024. In that ruling, the Court acquitted Speed and co-defendants Koolman, Giel, and Lacle of charges regarding participation in a criminal organization due to insufficient evidence. However, Speed, Giel, and Lacle were found guilty of bribing a police officer identified as Vos to access confidential police data. The Court determined the defendants provided laptops, WiFi devices, and specific applications to intercept secret radio communications. The judge noted that each defendant made a significant contribution to the violation.
