Sigmar Carmelia Appointed President of the Common Court of Justice
ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Council of Ministers of the Kingdom has approved the appointment of Sigmar Carmelia as the new president of the Common Court of Justice. The appointment takes effect upon the signing of the Royal Decree.
The proposal came from the State Secretary for Justice and Security, Van Bruggen. Mr. Carmelia has served as a substitute member of the Common Court of Justice since 2014. Prior to that, during his studies, he served as a substitute judge and cantonal judge at the Court of Gelderland, and worked as a lawyer and legal advisor at the College for Human Rights.
Mr. Carmelia succeeds mr. Mauritsz de Kort, who served as president until November 4, 2025, before assuming the role of Governor of Curaçao.
