ORANJESTAD – In preparation for King’s Day 2027, nominations are officially open for the Royal Decoration, honoring individuals in Aruba for exceptional volunteer work or outstanding performance in their primary role benefiting the community.
This year, 19 Arubans are set to receive recognition. Any Aruban citizen, organization, or institution may submit a nomination, except for self-nominations. Candidates must remain unaware of their nomination to ensure the award remains a surprise.
The nomination period began on June 15, 2026. Proposals must be submitted to the Decoratiecommissie Aruba with all forms completed, either at the Balie of the Bestuurskantoor in Playa or San Nicolas, or at MFA Savaneta, Sta. Cruz, Paradera, and Noord. The deadline is July 31, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
Eligible nominees include volunteers with at least 15 years of service in fields such as sports, arts, culture, religion, environment, youth work, elderly care, and public safety. Individuals demonstrating exceptional performance in their professional roles that positively impact the community may also be considered. Nomination forms must be fully completed, signed by the proposer (“voorsteller”), and supported by statements from endorsers (“ondersteuners”).
All nominations are forwarded to the Kapittel voor de Civiele Orden in the Netherlands for evaluation. The Kapittel advises the Kingdom government on awarding decorations, considering the nominee’s record, conduct, and compliance with the law. Only nominations submitted on time and completely filled will be considered for 2027.
