The roundabout near MFA in Noord has been officially named Rotonde Ovito Tromp during a ceremony held Thursday afternoon, honoring the late community figure Benito Ovito Tromp for his decades of service to the Noord neighborhood.
Infrastructure Minister drs. René Herdé presided over the unveiling, noting that the dedication had been planned since 2017 but was only now being formally executed. “This is a moment that Ovito’s family and friends have been waiting for for many years,” Herdé said.
Tromp, who passed away a few years ago, was remembered as a steadfast community volunteer who lent his time to people of all ages — children, adults, and the elderly — while working as a schoolteacher. “He was a person with so much talent and dedication. An example for all of us of what it means to serve your country,” the minister stated. “Ovito is rightly being honored today for everything he did for us.”
Jourick Blanco, president of the sports division of Centro di Bario Noord (CBN), spoke on behalf of the family and expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, calling Tromp a pillar and symbol of volunteerism in Noord.
Numerous family members and friends attended the ceremony to witness the official name unveiling.
