Venezuelan Consul Says Red Cross Likely to Coordinate Humanitarian Aid Collection

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Venezuelan Consul General Amabel Lugo says the Aruba Red Cross is expected to play a leading role in coordinating humanitarian aid for Venezuela following the recent devastating earthquakes.

Speaking to DIARIO, Lugo said she understands that the Red Cross will likely be responsible for collecting humanitarian donations, although final confirmation is still pending. She encouraged residents wishing to help to work through established organizations to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.

Lugo stressed that donors should avoid collecting supplies independently and instead follow official guidance so resources are directed toward the country’s most urgent needs. She added that the Venezuelan Consulate remains in constant contact with Aruba’s authorities, exchanging information on the humanitarian response.

The consul noted that she cannot instruct individuals on how to donate, as those are personal decisions, but she recommended following official channels to prevent unnecessary duplication of efforts or misdirected resources.

According to Lugo, Venezuela is currently focused on the search-and-rescue phase of the disaster response. Humanitarian aid will become increasingly important in the coming stages as thousands of people affected by the earthquakes require assistance, but she emphasized that relief efforts must remain organized and coordinated.
