ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.0% in May 2026 compared with April, while annual inflation reached 2.1%.

According to the latest figures, the CPI stood at 111.90 in May. The 12-month inflation rate from May 2025 to May 2026 rose to 2.1%, up from 0.1% recorded during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The annual average inflation rate over the past 24 months was 0.4%, representing a decrease from the 1.1% recorded in the previous comparable period.

Nine of the twelve expenditure categories recorded price increases during May. The largest contributors were transportation, which rose 3.3%, clothing and footwear, which increased 12.9%, and communication, which climbed 2.7%.

The transportation increase was mainly driven by higher costs associated with the use of personal vehicles. Clothing prices also rose significantly, while communication costs increased largely due to higher prices for telephone and fax equipment.

Meanwhile, the furniture category declined by 3.1%, primarily because of lower prices for household appliances and home and garden tools.

The CPI basket includes 408 goods and services. Compared with April, nearly half of all items recorded price increases, while about one-third became less expensive.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, increased by 0.9% during May. Energy prices fell by 2.3%, while food prices increased by 1.2%.
