Minor Earthquake Recorded Southwest of Aruba Thursday Night

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A minor earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale was recorded southwest of Aruba at exactly 10:00:06 p.m. on Thursday, according to seismic data.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located beneath the Caribbean Sea, approximately 54 kilometres west-southwest of Punta Brabo near Eagle Beach, 59 kilometres southwest of Arashi Beach, and about 60 kilometres west-southwest of De Palm Island.

The tremor occurred at a depth of less than 30 kilometres below the seabed. No reports were received from residents who felt the earthquake, and no damage was reported.

Meanwhile, authorities reported that more than 120 aftershocks have been recorded in Venezuela following the two devastating earthquakes that struck the country earlier this week. Most of the aftershocks have occurred in the states of La Guaira, Aragua, and Carabobo.

One of the stronger aftershocks, measuring 4.2 in magnitude, was recorded Thursday evening and occurred approximately 115 kilometres east-southeast of Willemstoren, the southernmost point of Bonaire.
