TILARÁN, COSTA RICA — Interpol agents from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) carried out a judicial raid in a home in Tilarán, Guanacaste, where they arrested a 16-year-old suspect accused of attempting to lure an 11-year-old girl from Aruba through the internet. The case has been under investigation since August.
According to the local police chief, the victim is a young girl from Aruba whose mother reported the incident to authorities on the island. The suspect allegedly requested sexually explicit photos and videos and also sent similar content himself.
The investigation revealed that initial contact was made through an online video game, where the male teenager managed to gain the girl’s trust. He then obtained her phone number and continued contacting her through WhatsApp, repeatedly requesting images and other inappropriate material.
The Costa Rican teenager has been detained and placed under an order of arrest issued by the Juvenile Criminal Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities in both Aruba and Costa Rica continue coordinating the investigation.
