90% of Registered Vehicles in Aruba Have Fully Paid 2025 Road Tax

ORANJESTAD (AAN): Out of 97,710 registered vehicles in Aruba, approximately 90% have fully complied with the payment of their 2025 motor vehicle tax, according to figures shared by the Department of Taxes (DIMP).

Speaking during an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Ms. Meverly Romano, Public Relations Officer at DIMP, explained the current compliance situation based on official data.

“At this moment, Aruba has 97,710 registered vehicles. Of these, 88,272 vehicles—representing 90%—have fully paid their 2025 motor vehicle tax. We truly appreciate and thank this group for meeting their obligations on time,” Romano stated.

She further explained that 3,796 vehicles have only paid the first half of the annual tax, while 5,299 vehicles have not made any payment at all for 2025. This results in a total of 9,095 vehicles classified as non-compliant for the 2025 fiscal year.

Romano emphasized that many of these non-compliant vehicles are still on the road, particularly those that have not paid anything and therefore do not yet have the required blue-and-white license plates. She noted that vehicles still displaying red-and-white or orange plates are not in compliance with current regulations.

“This situation is not the responsibility of DIMP,” Romano clarified. “Last year, DIMP announced that inspections would be conducted, and we made every effort to assist those who had appointments. Currently, most of the people receiving their plates are those who have already paid and scheduled appointments, but the numbers remain relatively low.”

In closing, Romano acknowledged that there will always be a group that does not comply, but she stressed that this year shows improvement compared to previous years, especially with the introduction of new license plates. She summarized the situation as 90% compliant, 9% non-compliant, and 1% of vehicle owners who returned their plates because their vehicles are no longer in use.
