ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A recent statement addressed the community regarding the importance of parental love, discipline, and spiritual care for children. Citing Psalms 127:3, the text describes children as a heritage and reward from the Lord. It emphasizes that while parents are instrumental in creation, it is God who places the child in the womb, necessitating that expectant mothers care for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Pregnant women are advised to avoid harmful substances such as drugs and alcohol, as well as unnecessary worry, conflict, and high blood pressure, to protect the unborn child. They are also urged to avoid contact with practices related to witchcraft and Santeria, suggesting these could negatively affect the baby. Instead, the message encourages focusing on the word of God and placing trust in divine protection.
Regarding child-rearing, Proverbs 19:18 is referenced, calling on parents to discipline their children with love, humility, and proper character. The text warns that failing to discipline a child could lead to future problems for society, but clarifies that discipline should not involve maltreatment. Parents are encouraged to use wisdom and encouragement rather than focusing solely on negative behavior.
