The Minister Plenipotentiary is the official voice of Aruba in The Hague, according to AVP parliamentarian Jennifer Arends-Reyes, who highlighted the strategic importance of the position within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Arends-Reyes explained that the role of the Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba is essential for representing the island’s interests at the Kingdom level. The position ensures that Aruba maintains a strong and consistent presence in The Hague, where discussions between the countries of the Kingdom take place on governance, cooperation, and development.

The Minister Plenipotentiary is the official voice of Aruba in The Hague, acting as the main representative of Aruba in political and administrative matters that involve cooperation between Aruba, the Netherlands, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten.

Key Role in Kingdom Decision-Making

According to Arends-Reyes, the minister plenipotentiary participates in important meetings, including those of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom (Rijksministerraad). These meetings address significant issues that affect the future of the countries within the Kingdom.

Topics discussed during these meetings often include:

  • Economic cooperation

  • Governance and public administration

  • Security and stability

  • Social and developmental policies

Through this participation, Aruba has the opportunity to ensure that its perspectives and national interests are properly represented during decision-making processes at the Kingdom level.

Strengthening Aruba’s Representation

Arends-Reyes emphasized that professional and committed representation in The Hague is vital for Aruba’s position within the Kingdom.

“The minister plenipotentiary serves as a bridge between Aruba and the institutions of the Kingdom,” she explained. “This role helps ensure that the interests of our people are represented and defended at the Kingdom level.”

By maintaining open communication and dialogue with the other Kingdom partners, the representative helps strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between the countries.

Congratulations to Milly Schwengle

During her statement, Arends-Reyes also congratulated Milly Schwengle on her appointment as Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba.

She noted that the position carries both great responsibility and an important opportunity to contribute to Aruba’s development and its relationship within the Kingdom.

“I would like to congratulate Mrs. Schwengle on her appointment and wish her much success in this important role,” Arends-Reyes said. “Representing Aruba within the Kingdom is a great honor.”

The parliamentarian expressed confidence that Schwengle’s experience, dedication, and knowledge will help promote Aruba’s interests while strengthening cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The appointment marks another step in maintaining Aruba’s official representation and ensuring that the island continues to have a voice in discussions affecting the broader Kingdom structure.
