ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Mike Eman Peru Visit placed Aruba on the international stage as the prime minister attended the inauguration of Keiko Fujimori and pursued stronger diplomatic and economic relations with Peru.

Eman travelled to Lima with an Aruban government delegation for the presidential transition held on July 28, 2026.

Fujimori was officially proclaimed president-elect by Peru’s National Jury of Elections on July 3 and received her credentials on July 15. She was sworn in before Congress on July 28 for the 2026–2031 presidential term.

Aruba Represented at Presidential Inauguration

The inauguration brought together presidents, government leaders and international representatives from across Latin America and other regions.

Eman attended the ceremony as Aruba’s prime minister. Reports concerning the international delegation also described him as representing the Kingdom of the Netherlands during the transition of power.

The ceremony included Fujimori’s swearing-in before Peru’s Congress, her first address to the nation and official events involving visiting dignitaries.

Her inauguration made her the first woman elected by popular vote to serve as president of Peru.

Delegation Arrives in Lima

Eman arrived in Lima on July 26 with Secretary General of the Ministry of General Affairs Robert Candelaria, acting Foreign Relations Department director Juri Nicolas and government press chief Marko Espinoza.

The delegation was received at Jorge Chávez International Airport by a representative of Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit was scheduled to continue through July 29 and included diplomatic, commercial and economic meetings alongside the inauguration programme.

Eman Meets Keiko Fujimori

Before the inauguration, Eman met Fujimori at Torre Tagle Palace together with the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ ambassador to Peru, Alexander Kofman.

The discussion focused on relations between Peru, Aruba and the wider Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Tourism, agriculture, water management, security and economic development were identified as possible areas for expanded cooperation.

The meeting provided Aruba with an opportunity to establish direct contact with Peru’s incoming administration before the beginning of its five-year term.

Agricultural Trade Opportunities Discussed

The trip programme included discussions with representatives from Peru’s agricultural production and export sectors.

Aruba imports a significant share of the products consumed on the island, making reliable regional supply relationships important for food availability and economic resilience.

The delegation planned to examine opportunities for Peruvian agricultural producers to supply products to Aruba while identifying areas where transportation and commercial cooperation could be strengthened.

Meetings were listed with representatives of the Association of Agricultural Producer Guilds of Peru, PromPerú and the Peruvian Exporters Association.

Tourism and Air Connections Highlighted

Peru is also an established South American tourism market for Aruba.

Direct air services between Lima and Aruba support tourism while helping connect the island with other destinations in the southern part of the continent.

The Mike Eman Peru Visit aimed to build on those connections by promoting Aruba and exploring ways to increase tourism, commercial exchange and regional accessibility.

Stronger aviation links could benefit visitors while also supporting business travel, cargo transportation and new economic partnerships.

Sustainability Included in Programme

The delegation’s schedule also included discussions with organisations focused on sustainability.

Small islands such as Aruba face challenges involving water, energy, food security, waste management and dependence on imported products.

Peru’s experience in agriculture, natural-resource management and regional trade could create opportunities for practical cooperation.

Ambassador Alexander Kofman, who has represented the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Peru since 2023, supports bilateral relationships involving government, business and academic institutions.

Regional Leaders Attend Ceremony

Eman joined international dignitaries attending Fujimori’s inauguration, including leaders and representatives from several Latin American countries, Spain, the United States and China.

The presence of Aruba’s prime minister created opportunities for informal discussions and possible bilateral meetings with other regional leaders.

The trip programme included a planned meeting with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and reserved time for discussions with additional government representatives attending the inauguration.

Aruba Seeks Stronger Regional Position

Aruba’s geographic location gives the island close economic, cultural and transportation connections with Latin America.

Relations with countries such as Peru can help Aruba diversify tourism markets, strengthen food-import options and build regional partnerships beyond its traditional markets.

The government said participation in the presidential inauguration reflected Peru’s importance as a regional partner.

The visit also supported Aruba’s wider objective of strengthening diplomatic visibility and creating opportunities involving commerce, agriculture, tourism and sustainable development.

Visit Concludes With Business Engagement

Before returning to Aruba, Eman’s programme included interviews with Peruvian media and a meeting with a representative of the Peruvian-Dutch Chamber of Commerce.

These engagements were intended to increase awareness of Aruba among Peruvian businesses and identify organisations interested in future cooperation.

The Mike Eman Peru Visit combined official representation at a historic presidential inauguration with efforts to develop practical relationships that could benefit Aruba.

Through meetings with Peru’s new president, diplomats and business-sector representatives, the Aruban delegation sought to create a stronger foundation for regional cooperation during the coming years.
