The Dakota community center renovation has begun with work to rebuild the fence around its football field, supported by Aruba’s Ministry of Sports and Lotto pa Deporte.
Project replaces an aging field fence
Sports Minister Gerlien Croes formally marked the start of the work at Centro di Bario Dakota, according to 24ora. The project includes reconstructing the enclosure around the football field as part of continued investment in neighborhood and sports facilities.
SV Dakota president Gilmar Croes described the work as the third phase of improvements to the grounds. He said the existing fence, installed about 50 years ago, had deteriorated over several years and will be replaced with a new structure made from more durable materials.
Center initiated the renovation plan
The community center’s board initiated the project and later worked with the government to secure the funding needed to begin construction. The minister said the investment is intended to improve safety and conditions for children and young people who use the facilities.
Gerlien Croes also said Dakota is expected to receive a turf field. The source report did not provide a completion date for either the fence work or the planned turf installation.
Work precedes the center’s 80th anniversary
The renovation is also part of preparations for Centro di Bario Dakota’s 80th anniversary, which the center will mark on July 15, 2027. Gilmar Croes thanked Lotto pa Deporte and the sports minister for supporting the project.
Centro di Bario Dakota has hosted community activities over the years, including cultural and dance programs. The current work is intended to help the facility continue serving neighborhood residents while improving its sports infrastructure.
