San nicolas business summit aims to accelerate investment and development

The upcoming San Nicolas Business Summit could help create new momentum for development in the district, according to San Nicolas Business Association President Errol de Freitas.

De Freitas said he is cautiously optimistic about the future of San Nicolas as preparations continue for the third edition of the San Nicolas Business Summit.

The event was originally scheduled for August 19, 2026, although organizers are considering moving it to September 9.

De Freitas believes the summit could change the direction of discussions surrounding investment and development in San Nicolas.

He said government officials and political representatives should attend because several investors have already purchased buildings and developed business concepts for the area.

According to de Freitas, approximately eight or nine investors are expected to present their plans.

Government Participation Considered Essential

De Freitas said the participation of government officials is important because many development projects depend on infrastructure and permitting decisions.

He argued that investors may have properties, financing and business ideas ready, but still require cooperation from government agencies before projects can move forward.

According to him, infrastructure and permitting therefore need to form an important part of the summit discussions.

De Freitas said he met with the infrastructure minister earlier this year and has continued trying to establish further contact regarding issues affecting San Nicolas.

Concerns Extend Beyond Investment

The SNBA president also raised concerns about conditions in other parts of San Nicolas.

He referred to the area around Santana di Cacho and noted that Secrets Aruba is operating despite challenges affecting the surrounding district.

De Freitas also mentioned a recent visit to Rodgers Beach, where he observed significant amounts of seaweed.

He questioned why areas such as San Nicolas appear to receive less attention than major tourism zones such as Eagle Beach and Palm Beach.

According to de Freitas, the issue is not about political personalities but about ensuring that all districts of Aruba receive appropriate government attention.

He stressed that elected officials have a responsibility to serve the entire island rather than focusing primarily on Oranjestad or Noord.

The San Nicolas Business Summit is expected to provide an opportunity for investors, government representatives and other stakeholders to discuss concrete projects, infrastructure challenges and the steps needed to move development forward.
