ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Aruba child rights became the focus of an interactive educational session for young people attending the YMCA Vacation Camp.
Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan recently visited the camp to provide a presentation about children’s rights and give participants an opportunity to better understand the protections and freedoms young people should have.
Unlike a traditional presentation, the activity encouraged participants to actively join the conversation.
Young People Debate Children’s Rights
During the session, YMCA Vacation Camp participants were invited to openly discuss and debate different aspects of children’s rights.
The interactive format allowed young people to express their own opinions, ask questions and listen to different perspectives.
Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan said the approach helped participants develop a better understanding of Aruba child rights while encouraging them to think critically about issues that directly affect children and young people.
Rather than simply being told what their rights are, participants had an opportunity to explore what those rights mean in everyday life.
Participants Create Their Own Rights
One of the more creative parts of the activity gave participants an opportunity to imagine and create rights of their own.
The exercise encouraged young people to consider what they believe children need in order to feel safe, respected, supported and able to develop.
By creating their own examples, participants were able to connect the concept of children’s rights with situations they encounter in their families, schools and communities.
The activity also gave organizers greater insight into how young people themselves understand rights, responsibilities and well-being.
Education Builds Stronger Foundations
Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan said it firmly believes education provides an important foundation for children’s development.
Teaching young people about Aruba child rights can help them understand when they should be protected, how they should be treated and why their opinions deserve consideration.
Educational activities can also help children recognize that rights come with an understanding of respect for other people.
The foundation has long worked in Aruba to support children’s development, care and well-being while providing information to families and the wider community.
YMCA Partnership Welcomed
Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan thanked the YMCA for cooperating in organizing the session and providing young camp participants with an opportunity to take part.
Vacation camps can offer more than recreation by creating spaces where children can develop social skills, learn about important community issues and express their views.
The children’s rights presentation combined those objectives through conversation, debate and creative participation.
For Fundacion Pa Nos Muchanan, providing young people with opportunities to understand Aruba child rights is part of building a stronger foundation in which children know their rights, feel comfortable expressing their opinions and understand the importance of respecting others.
The organization thanked the YMCA and participating young people for helping make the educational gathering a successful and engaging experience.
