ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Every day, a dedicated team of professionals works throughout Aruba to help protect the community from mosquito-borne diseases. This team is the Gele Koortsmuskietenbestrijding (GKMB), a division of the Department of Public Health (DVG).
GKMB is responsible for mosquito control and management across Aruba. Its work plays a crucial role in preventing diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, and Yellow Fever, which can be transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
To achieve this goal, GKMB personnel conduct neighborhood inspections, identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, provide information and guidance to residents, and carry out preventive measures to reduce mosquito populations around homes and businesses.
Many residents may see GKMB staff walking through neighborhoods or visiting properties without fully understanding their role. These visits are an essential part of the preventive efforts that help keep Aruba safe and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses.
GKMB staff are easily recognizable by their cream-colored polo shirts featuring the official DVG logo and by carrying official identification while performing their duties.
The Department of Public Health encourages the community to become familiar with the GKMB team and to support mosquito prevention efforts. Preventing mosquito-borne diseases requires cooperation between the government and citizens to ensure the health and safety of the entire community.
Through its daily work, GKMB continues to help protect Aruba and its residents from mosquito-related health risks.
