The Fernandez Pedra family representative is calling for recorded court hearings and more preparation time for the defence in Aruba.
Representative Questions Legal-Representation Process
Alex Matthew, speaking as a representative of S. Fernandez Pedra's family, has raised questions about how legal representation was arranged in the criminal case arising from a fatal collision that killed two people. According to NoticiaCla, Matthew said at a press conference that lawyers whose names were associated with the case had not clearly accepted the representation or contacted Fernandez Pedra at the relevant time.
Family Seeks Recorded Proceedings
Matthew called for official recordings of court sessions, at least in audio form, as part of what he described as Fernandez Pedra court transparency. He said recordings would allow participants to verify what the judge, prosecutor, suspect and lawyers stated when questions later arise about the official record.
Preparation Time Is Another Concern
The family representative said a third lawyer contacted Fernandez Pedra by video less than 24 hours before an October 2 hearing and had received the case file. Matthew argued that a defence lawyer should have enough time to study the dossier, speak with the client and determine whether additional investigation is needed. He emphasized that the family is seeking a fair opportunity to prepare a defence, not immunity from any sentence imposed after a finding of guilt.
Claims Remain Attributed to the Family
Matthew also requested a technical reconstruction of the collision and voiced broader suspicions about the case. NoticiaCla explicitly reported that he presented no independent evidence establishing a plot or manipulation, so those allegations remain his own position. The case is scheduled to return to court on November 4, according to the source report.
