FCCA Announces Plans for Senior Housing

Fundacion Cas pa Comunidad Arubano (FCCA) has announced a strategic shift in its housing projects to address the increasing demand from the elderly. Director Julie Wever explained that recent analysis has prompted the foundation to place particular emphasis on housing options for older adults in the coming years.

Speaking about the data, Wever revealed that 70% of housing requests come from people aged 55 or older, with half of that group being 65 or older. This demographic shift has created a specific demand for single-bedroom units. While FCCA remains dedicated to creating balanced neighborhoods that include young professionals, the director emphasized that the current structural numbers highlight a critical need for senior accommodation.

Several major projects are currently in the planning stages to address this. The Cas Paloma project will provide 50 homes designed for the elderly, primarily consisting of single-bedroom units. Under a master plan for Rooi Congo, approximately 150 additional homes for seniors are slated for construction. The foundation is also developing the Kiviti project, which will feature 75 row houses mostly for families, and 21 student apartments on Wilhelminastraat.

Wever emphasized that FCCA focuses on the provision of housing rather than direct medical care. The organization utilizes ‘woonwijk beheerders’ (neighborhood coordinators) to identify any resident needs and notify the Department of Social Affairs or other relevant bodies. The upcoming Bucuti project is also noted for integrating recreational spaces to improve the quality of life for elderly residents.
