ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Students from EPI Aruba helped build wooden planter boxes as part of a community project organized by the Department of Elderly Affairs to promote the well-being of Aruba’s senior citizens.
EPI Director Anki Donker said the initiative allowed students to apply the practical skills they are learning in school while making a meaningful contribution to the community.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Santa Rosa, the Department of Elderly Affairs, EPI and local care homes. Donker described it as a valuable learning experience that enabled students to see how their classroom training can make a positive difference in the lives of older adults.
She added that community projects like this help students gain practical experience, prepare for future employment and develop skills that can be used professionally or through volunteer work.
According to Donker, partnerships between educational institutions and community organizations strengthen students’ technical abilities while encouraging civic engagement and real-world learning.
