The Government of Aruba has issued a final reminder regarding the “Open Call” for initiatives commemorating Dia di Emancipation 2026, which will be celebrated on July 1. The invitation is extended to social organizations, cultural groups, foundations, and grassroots movements to propose projects that contribute to a dignified commemoration of the abolition of slavery.
Prime Minister Mike Eman highlighted that Aruba is currently in an important phase of recognizing the history of slavery within society. He stated that the initiative aims to stimulate dialogue and reflection, noting, “We want to create space for more awareness and participation… to build a society with more connection and mutual understanding.”
Applications are accepted exclusively from legal entities. To support these efforts, the Herdenkingscomite has made a total budget of USD 30,000 available to be distributed among selected projects. The focus is on initiatives that address the theme with care and respect.
This is the final week for submissions. The government encourages the community to actively participate in building a commemoration that honors the past while contributing to the future.
