ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The ELMAR Electra Discovery Tour returned to YMCA San Nicolas, giving children an interactive lesson in electrical safety through theatre, entertainment and educational materials.
The visit formed part of N.V. ELMAR’s corporate social responsibility programme and its Switch On Safety public-awareness campaign.
This is the second consecutive year that the electricity distributor has organised the educational roadshow for children and community organisations across Aruba.
Chispito Delivers Electrical Safety Lessons
Children attending the YMCA programme watched a Chispito puppet show developed in cooperation with Scol Teatro Aruba TRIBI.
The performance presented important rules intended to help prevent electrical accidents and encourage children to use electricity responsibly.
By presenting the information through familiar characters and an interactive story, the programme aimed to make important safety messages easier for young participants to understand and remember.
The wider Switch On Safety programme teaches participants that electricity is useful and essential but must always be treated carefully.
Earlier tour information highlighted rules such as avoiding power-distribution lines, never pulling a plug from an outlet by its cord and handling electrical equipment responsibly.
Children Receive Official Chispito Figurines
The children at YMCA San Nicolas became the first tour participants to receive ELMAR’s official Chispito figurine.
Electrical-safety messages are printed on the figurine’s packaging, allowing children to take the lessons from the event home with them.
ELMAR said the item is intended to serve as more than a souvenir. Families can use it to continue discussing electrical safety and responsible energy use after the programme ends.
ELMAR Continues Relationship With YMCA
The 2026 activity continued an existing relationship between ELMAR and YMCA San Nicolas.
The utility brought the Electra Discovery Tour to the organisation during 2025, when children participated in electrical games, learned about underground cables and received an introduction to the work performed by electricity-line employees.
ELMAR has also worked with YMCA San Nicolas through Klik y Siña, a digital-literacy programme for older adults.
That initiative helped participants develop basic computer and internet skills while learning to use services including ELMAR’s customer portal and online billing options.
The programmes allow the organisation and the utility to provide educational activities for different generations within the San Nicolas community.
Tour Started in Santa Cruz
The ELMAR Electra Discovery Tour 2026 began at Stichting Ambiente Nobo in Santa Cruz before continuing to YMCA San Nicolas.
The opening visit introduced this year’s Chispito puppet-show format and the Switch On Safety theme.
ELMAR said the roadshow will continue visiting summer camps in several districts around Aruba during the coming weeks. The complete list of locations and dates was not included in the announcement.
Electrical Safety Begins at Home
Electrical-safety education is particularly important for children because ordinary household items can create risks when used incorrectly.
ELMAR advises residents to keep damaged electrical cords out of use, avoid overloading outlets and install safety covers on unused outlets in homes with children.
The utility also warns that water and electricity should always be kept apart and that wet appliances should not be used until they have been inspected by a qualified professional.
Teaching these habits at an early age can help children identify unsafe situations and understand when they should ask an adult for assistance.
Education Combined With Entertainment
The tour uses theatre, characters and interactive activities to present safety information without relying entirely on technical explanations.
The approach allows children to enjoy the programme while learning behaviours that can be applied at home and in other everyday environments.
Through the ELMAR Electra Discovery Tour, the company said it will continue sharing accessible electrical-safety information with children and their families while supporting educational activities throughout Aruba.
