A cyclist was injured when a car hit his bicycle on Laclé Boulevard in Oranjestad on Monday evening, October 26, Diario reported on October 28.
The collision happened at around 6:45 p.m. on Laclé Boulevard, at the height of Total Finance, near the T-junction with Nieuwstraat. Calls reporting that a car had hit a bicycle came into Police Central, and Oranjestad police units mobilised.
On arrival, officers found a sedan stopped on the east side of the road and a completely broken bicycle on the west side. Because the cyclist was lying injured on the road, police closed the whole stretch of road from both sides, including from the Oranjestad Service Station side.
The driver of the grey Toyota Corolla told police he had not seen the bicycle, which appeared unexpectedly in front of him as he was turning. Police had the driver blow into the Alco-Sensor breath test; it read 0.00 µg/l, showing no alcohol in his system.
Paramedics attended the cyclist and took him to the Emergency Service at Hospital HOH for further treatment. Roadservice also attended the scene. The report gave no further details on the cyclist’s condition.
