Build a New Economic Pillar on the Strength of Our Culture

Prime Minister Mike Eman attended the opening of Creactivo2025, organized by the GoCultura Foundation. The conference is a platform to help creators—musicians, artists, painters and more—formalize the creative sector as a new economic pillar, often called the Orange Economy.

During his remarks, the Prime Minister recalled a pivotal moment in Aruba’s development. Standing on the same waterfront where the event is held, he looked back to 1985, when Aruba’s main economic pillar collapsed after the LAGO refinery closed—driving unemployment to 35% and cutting GDP by 50%. A young, visionary politician then proposed bold projects, especially Harbour Town, to reignite growth and expand tourism. In the first 100 days after Status Aparte, as Aruba’s first Prime Minister, he began that work.

Mike Eman praised the courage and vision of his brother Henny Eman, and said he sees the same drive in Arthur and Edjean and the GoCultura team to build a new economy rooted in culture. As Minister responsible for culture, he reaffirmed a firm commitment to elevate Aruba’s culture and place it on the world map.
