The quiet of the early morning hours on Koningstraat in Playa was shattered when residents were startled awake by gunfire. Around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, police received multiple reports of at least two shots fired near the intersection of Koningstraat and Weststraat.
Some witnesses reported seeing a suspicious white vehicle with two male occupants, suggesting a possible drive-by shooting. The incident occurred approximately 125 meters from the new Playa Police Station on Paardenbaaistraat.
Police units were immediately dispatched and closed off the area near Feng Da Supermarket. Officers conducted a careful on-foot search of the street and sidewalk, using their vehicle headlights for visibility. Several spent shell casings were found at the scene and left in place for forensic investigators from BFTO to document.
Further inspection revealed bullet impacts on a nearby house wall, as well as blood stains near the residence. This information was promptly relayed to police headquarters.
Around 5:00 a.m., authorities confirmed that a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital’s emergency department. The injured man was identified as a 29-year-old Colombian national. Police stated that his condition is stable, and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department visited the hospital as part of the ongoing investigation.
