Over the weekend, DIARIO received an update from sources connected to the serious accident that occurred on Friday afternoon on Wolfstraat in Noord, a residential road that connects to Figaroastraat.

The incident involved a five-year-old boy, identified as J.O., who lives on the same street. Earlier that afternoon, the child had gone to play at a nearby home with the children of neighbors who live two houses away. The family welcomed him, and he spent his Friday afternoon enjoying himself there.

The boy was playing outside on the property, sitting low on the ground and playing with dirt. At approximately 2:20 p.m., a woman who also lives at the residence arrived home driving a white Hyundai SUV. Family members saw the vehicle arrive and immediately called all the children to come inside. However, the young neighbor did not respond to the call and remained seated on the ground playing.

Tragically, the driver did not see the child due to the height of the SUV and proceeded to pull into the parking area. The vehicle struck the child, knocking him face down, and one of the wheels passed over his lower back. The driver stopped immediately and, upon exiting the vehicle, was confronted with the horrifying sight of the child bleeding heavily.

Authorities emphasized that the incident was purely accidental. Due to the vehicle’s height and the child’s position on the ground, the driver was unable to see him.

Child in Intensive Care

When paramedics arrived, they carefully placed the injured child onto a stretcher and rushed him to the Emergency Department. At the hospital, doctors identified multiple injuries, some more severe than others. X-rays were performed to determine whether any bones were broken.

Miraculously, no fractures were found. However, doctors discovered that the child’s right lung was seriously affected. As a precaution, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he is being closely monitored during the critical first 72 hours.

Despite the severity of the accident, the child remains conscious and alert. Medical staff describe him as strong and resilient, showing determination as he fights to recover from his injuries.

The family remains constantly by his side in the ICU and expressed deep gratitude for the support they have received. They made it clear that they harbor no resentment toward their neighbor, fully recognizing the incident as a tragic accident that could happen to anyone.

The parents are asking family, friends, and the wider community to continue praying for their son’s full and speedy recovery. They also request prayers for the neighbor involved, who has been deeply affected by the incident. The family expressed strong faith and hope that community prayers will help guide the child through his recovery.
