ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Prime Minister Mike Eman officially launched a new phase of the Caya Grandi revitalization project on Monday morning, focusing on improving cleanliness, maintenance, and quality of life in Oranjestad and San Nicolas.

During a press conference, the Prime Minister announced the implementation of a special taskforce that brings together multiple government agencies to address city center issues in a structured way.

According to Eman, the Caya Grandi revitalization goes beyond simple cleaning. “Our goal is to work consistently on maintenance, but also on safety, order, and overall well-being in our neighborhoods,” he explained.

The government has already begun concrete actions, including large-scale cleaning and maintenance operations involving the Department of Public Works (DOW), City Inspector, and other partners. These efforts are focused on restoring roads, public spaces, and infrastructure in the city center.

Eman acknowledged that the challenges are significant, noting that infrastructure maintenance had been neglected for nearly eight years. He emphasized that the work ahead is greater than initially expected.

Despite this, the Prime Minister stated that the Caya Grandi revitalization marks a turning point, with the government taking responsibility to rebuild a more organized and livable city center.

The strategy also includes encouraging community involvement. Public campaigns will be launched to motivate residents, businesses, and organizations to actively participate in the transformation.

Eman stressed that only through cooperation can the desired change be achieved, highlighting that the Caya Grandi revitalization is a key step in strengthening Aruba’s economic and social core.
