ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Autistic Student Graduates from EPI Economy Program as Byron Lesire, a 26-year-old student on the autism spectrum, celebrated earning his Level 4 diploma from Colegio EPI Sector Economia during the school’s graduation ceremony.
The graduation took place at the Ballroom of Marriott’s Aruba Resort & Stellaris Casino, where graduates, families, teachers, and Minister of Education Gerlien Croes gathered to celebrate the achievements of students completing their studies in the Economy sector.
During the ceremony, Byron delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on his educational journey. He spoke openly about the challenges he faced throughout his studies, including moments when people doubted his abilities and periods when he experienced bullying. Despite these obstacles, he expressed gratitude to the teachers who believed in him and supported his success, proudly stating that he had “beaten the system.”
Byron also acknowledged the unwavering support of his mother, whose dedication and sacrifices played a significant role in helping him complete the three-year Level 4 Economy program and achieve his diploma.
Minister Gerlien Croes congratulated all graduates and encouraged them to continue working hard toward their future goals. She wished the graduates continued success as they pursue further education and professional careers.
The graduation ceremony celebrated not only academic achievement but also perseverance, determination, and the importance of inclusive education, with Byron Lesire’s accomplishment serving as an inspiring example for students across Aruba.
