Fundacion Asambeho is expanding its musical development program for Aruban youth through the Asambeho Drum Camp. The initiative aims to nurture talent and create leaders within the community’s brass bands, recently launching Level 3 classes at the Centro di Bario Noord.
Remigio ‘Jaws’ Rasmijn of Fundacion Asambeho outlined the program’s progress, noting that Level 1 began at Centro di Bario Noord, while Level 2 editions were held in Savaneta. To advance to Level 3, participants must pass an audition demonstrating skills acquired in previous levels. This stage focuses on the structure of an Asambeho, teaching students how to organize, count, execute rhythms, and manage presentations.
The foundation plans to introduce Level 4 in the near future to broaden musical knowledge. Rasmijn stated the organization’s goal is to establish a presence in every neighborhood center in Aruba to encourage communities to form their own brass bands. Currently, instruction focuses on Brazilian rhythms and the characteristic Asambeho style.
The foundation is collaborating with Scol di Musica to certify coaches. Rasmijn emphasized that the mission extends beyond individuals. “Asambeho no ta trata di un persona so, pero di crea e oportunidadnan y comparti conocemento cu otro,” Rasmijn said.
