Filomena College MAVO in San Nicolas recently held a ceremony to honor the 23rd anniversary of the officialization of Papiamento in 2003. The event served as a platform for the school’s personnel, teachers, and students to unite in celebration of the local language.
During the gathering, the school unveiled a portrait to mark the occasion. DCA supported the initiative by distributing various flyers that prominently displayed the word Papiamento and the phrase “nos ta stima Papiamento.”
Mariela Carrion, the designated teacher for the subject, is responsible for instilling a deep appreciation for the language in students every day. Furthermore, Filomena College MAVO remains dedicated to motivating local authors to write and publish content within their reach that contributes to the language’s growth. The overarching message shared during the week highlighted the value of linguistic mastery: “Love our language because if you master your language, you can master every subject and life lesson.”
