Arubiana-Caribiana Hosts Tribute for Ito Tromp : duna mi dos placa di palabra” took place recently at the main hall of Arubiana-Caribiana located on Bachstraat. The event was organized to honor Ito Tromp, an 87-year-old figure renowned for his dedication to preserving Aruba’s culture and history. The evening provided an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to express their appreciation for Tromp’s contributions to the island.
Moderators Zetsia Ponson and Renwick Heronimo led the conversation, guiding Tromp through various stages of his life and career. Highlights included over 40 years of work at Radio Kelkboom, specifically his popular program “Butishi di Alegria” and the quiz “Scucha, Pensa y Contesta.” The discussion also touched upon his trajectory with DCA and Radio Nederland Wereld Omroep, as well as his interviews with prominent Aruban celebrities and his efforts to promote the Papiamento language.
The audience included several distinguished guests, such as Parliamentarian Xiomara Maduro, Ramon Todd Dandaré, Luc Alofs, Deliomar Laclé, Mieckey Gravenhorst, Victor “Toko” Winklaar, and Olga Buckley. Tromp was joined by his sisters, his wife, his daughter Vicky, and his grandson. Organizers from the BNA, including Yorleny Oduber and Robby Solognier, were credited with facilitating the event, while Deliomar Laclé assisted in digitizing panels presented during the evening. The initiative ensured that Tromp’s legacy would be digitally preserved for future generations.
