Aruba is celebrating a proud moment as one of its own, Melinda Ruiz, officially earned her medical degree on June 27, 2025, from a prestigious institution in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. With this milestone, she steps into her professional journey as a physician, already employed as a junior doctor in cardiology (ANIOS Cardiologie) at Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Delft.
Melinda’s path to medicine began with a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. Over time, that interest evolved into a passion for understanding the human body and improving people’s lives through healthcare.
“Helping others feel better and knowing I made a difference in someone’s life fills me with purpose,” said Dr. Ruiz. Her current role in cardiology marks the beginning of a promising career, and she aspires to pursue further specialization in the field.
Melinda’s graduation is not only a personal success but also a moment of immense pride for her family, who supported her every step of the way. Present at the graduation was her close-knit circle including her mother Mady Laurence, father Jeffrey Ruiz, sister Melanie Ruiz, and partner Shawn Wever. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of Marc Kelly, who stood by her throughout the demanding academic journey.
During her graduation speech, Dr. Ruiz expressed heartfelt gratitude to her loved ones, stating:
“Thank you to my family who made long trips to be here, who supported me through weekends of silence while I studied. Marc, thank you for the sleepless nights, for being my anchor. To all who watched from home—thank you for your love.”
As Melinda enters the next chapter of her career, Aruba beams with pride. Her achievement not only reflects her determination but also stands as an inspiring symbol for young Arubans dreaming of careers in healthcare.
