Aruba vehicle-tax compliance reached approximately 82% for 2026, with 82,945 of the island’s 100,745 registered motor vehicles fully paid, according to figures presented by the Department of Taxes.
Thousands remain partly paid or unpaid
Department spokesperson Meverly Romano told Diario that 7,893 vehicles had only the first half of the annual tax paid. The second installment was due in June and is now subject to a 50% late-payment penalty. Another 9,563 registered vehicles had no 2026 payment recorded.
The largest group among the outstanding accounts involved A plates. The department reported 15,112 noncompliant cases in that category, while other plate categories together accounted for 2,344 cases.
Department continues monitoring compliance
The breakdown included 221 diesel trucks and 612 motorcycles or mopeds that were not current, categories for which the tax is paid annually. Officials also counted 157 unpaid personalized plates, about 240 T plates and 905 V plates that were either incomplete or unpaid.
The tax department said it will continue monitoring the figures and urged vehicle owners to bring outstanding payments up to date. The statistics provide a snapshot of registered accounts and do not indicate how many unpaid vehicles are currently being driven on public roads.
