In a heartfelt tribute to Aruba, Bernadette Kozak from Old Orchard Beach, Maine, describes the island as her second home. Her message to Aruba Today reflects the deep bond she and her husband, Peter, have built with the island over nearly four decades.

“Aruba to Me is Home”

Bernadette’s message reads, “Aruba to me is home.” Since 1985, Bernadette and Peter have been visiting the island, and each trip has created cherished memories. They recall the early days, when they would step off the plane and be greeted by a local photo-taking service. These moments marked the beginning of their Aruba journey, which has since become an essential part of their lives.

Over the years, their visits have extended to spending 2 to 3 months annually on the island. Currently, they’re staying at LaCabana, enjoying the serene atmosphere until April 12, 2026. Aruba’s natural beauty, its friendly people, and its culture have become a source of comfort and happiness for them, making it feel like home.

A Sentiment of Happiness

Bernadette ended her message with a heartfelt “Stay Hopi Bon,” which means “Stay Happy” in Papiamento, the island’s native language. This simple but meaningful phrase captures the essence of Aruba—a place of joy, warmth, and contentment.

Aruba Today invites visitors like Bernadette to share their favorite vacation pictures along with the phrase “Aruba to me is…” to be featured in the newspaper.
