ORANJESTAD — The Aruba social assistance reform process has moved forward after the Social and Economic Council, SER, completed its formal advisory review of proposed changes to the island’s social assistance regulations.
According to the information visible in the article, the Minister of Social Affairs, Labor and Welfare submitted proposed changes connected to the existing social assistance framework.
The request for advice involved two related regulatory proposals. One concerns amendments to the national ordinance governing the granting of social assistance, while the other concerns a national decree containing general measures for implementing provisions of that legislation.
SER received both requests for advice on June 23.
The council then evaluated the proposals from several perspectives, including legal, socioeconomic, financial and implementation considerations.
As part of the advisory process, the responsible minister provided further explanation during an extraordinary preparatory meeting of SER on August 7 and responded to questions from council members.
SER formally ratified its advice on August 14 during an extraordinary plenary meeting.
The advice was delivered on August 18, bringing the formal advisory stage to a close.
The next phase of the Aruba social assistance reform process is now in the hands of Government, which will decide how to proceed with the two proposed measures.
