ORANJESTAD — Justice Minister Arthur Dowers is personally monitoring renovation and improvement projects at several facilities under his responsibility, including Korrektie Instituut Aruba, the Edgar Joaquin “Watty” Vos Police Training Institute and the future DIMAS branch in San Nicolas.
Dowers recently carried out several unannounced site visits to assess how the projects are progressing and identify any delays or issues that may require additional attention.
According to the minister, project oversight should not be limited to reports and meetings. He believes it is important to visit the locations directly, inspect conditions and speak with those responsible for carrying out the work.
Special Attention for KIA
The situation at KIA remains a particular priority because several parts of the correctional complex require infrastructure improvements.
Dowers said the upgrades are important both for detainees and for employees who work at the facility every day.
The minister wants to ensure that agreed work is actually being carried out and that problems which could cause unnecessary delays are identified early.
Police Training Institute Renovation Continues
Dowers also reviewed progress at the Edgar Joaquin “Watty” Vos Police Training Institute.
Renovation work there is intended to gradually rehabilitate and expand the facilities used to train future members of the Aruba Police Force.
The project has already been the subject of earlier government updates, with the first phase nearing completion.
DIMAS San Nicolas Facility Also Reviewed
The minister also visited the building planned for use as the DIMAS San Nicolas branch.
He inspected the progress already made and reviewed the remaining work that still requires attention.
The broader Aruba justice infrastructure renovations are intended to improve working conditions, provide more suitable facilities and strengthen the quality of public services.
Dowers said his priority is to maintain regular follow-up so that projects do not simply begin, but continue progressing until they are completed.
