The Government of Aruba has expanded the list of medications covered under its public health insurance system (AZV), significantly improving access to modern treatments for patients on the island.

The update introduces a wide range of new medications. Patients with respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD now have access to additional treatment options. The cardiovascular category has also been broadened to include new combination therapies for high cholesterol and high blood pressure, along with other antihypertensive medications.

Other important additions include blood thinners, dermatological treatments such as creams for skin parasites and psoriasis, and gastrointestinal and metabolic medications, including therapies for inflammatory bowel disease and new combinations for diabetes management.

Patients with more complex health conditions will also benefit. The AZV list now covers cancer treatments, hormone therapies, advanced painkillers in nasal spray and patch form, as well as medications for Parkinson’s disease and depression.

According to the AVP-Futuro Cabinet, the expansion reflects a commitment to improving healthcare on the island by ensuring that patients have access to essential and up-to-date medications.
