The Department of Taxation announces that motorists can begin paying their 2026 motor vehicle tax. According to the law, the final payment deadline is January 31, 2026, but since this date falls on a weekend, the deadline has been extended to February 2, 2026.
The Department of Taxation allows taxpayers to make payments in installments, giving them more financial flexibility to meet their fiscal obligations. As is well known, motorists can choose to pay their vehicle tax all at once or in multiple installments by using the partial payment service.
Tax Rate: For 2026, the motor vehicle tax rate remains the same as the previous years. Taxpayers are only required to pay the tax rate. There is no need to pay for license plate costs, as the blue and white plates are valid until 2029.
Partial Payment Service: To help taxpayers meet their deadline and avoid needing to pay the entire tax in one lump sum by February 2026, the Department of Taxation offers the opportunity to pay in advance and in smaller amounts. This partial payment service is available for both businesses and individuals. At this time, taxpayers have four months before the February 2, 2026 deadline to make the necessary payments.
By using the partial payment service, taxpayers can spread out their payments over the upcoming months to ensure they meet the deadline.
The partial payment system is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended, especially for those who need more time or have more vehicles.
Conditions for Partial Payment Service:
The conditions for using the partial payment service are as follows:
() Pay the tax in advance, before February 2, 2026.
() Payments are made monthly.
() The minimum required payment is 50 Florins or 200 Florins (depending on the license plate category).
() No payment can be less than 50 Florins, unless the remaining debt is less.
(*) The final payment must be made no later than February 2, 2026.
The partial payment service is only valid for the payment of motor vehicle tax.
Minimum Payment: Be aware that the minimum payment depends on the category of the vehicle’s registration plate. You can consult the provided schedule for details.
Recommended Online Banking: The Department of Taxation also recommends that taxpayers use Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or CMB’s Online Banking system, using the “Bill Payment” method. Payments made via these banks will be processed in the Department of Taxation’s system the same day. Payments made through other banks may take at least 5 business days to be processed in the Department’s system.
For online payments to be processed correctly, it is important to include the following information:
() The personal number to which the vehicle is registered.
() The vehicle number.
(*) The period for which the payment is being made (e.g., 2026).
Request Online Receipt: Taxpayers who pay via bank can request an online receipt. To do so, visit the website impuesto.aw, select Digital Forms, and follow the instructions to request a receipt for motor vehicle tax payments.
Taxpayers using the partial payment service and paying via bank can request the online receipt after completing all the payments.
Final Payment Deadline: Remember, the final day to pay the 2026 motor vehicle tax for the first half of the year is February 2, 2026. For vehicles in categories MFA, MFV, and Nameplates, the full 2026 tax must be paid by February 2, 2026.
After February 2, 2026, it will no longer be possible to pay the first half of the 2026 tax in installments.
Overdue Taxes: Taxpayers with overdue motor vehicle taxes will not be able to pay the 2026 tax unless they have settled the previous year’s outstanding taxes. These taxpayers must make their overdue payments in full. Payments made for 2026 will first be applied to overdue taxes, and the remainder will go toward the 2026 tax.
Remember, it is not necessary to wait until the final deadline of February 2, 2026, to make the payment. As is well known, taxpayers will face a 50% penalty for non-compliance if they do not make the payment or make the payment late. Whether paying in full or in installments, the Department of Taxation recommends paying on time to avoid unnecessary expenses.
