Prime Minister Mike Eman met with UNOCA director Raquel Lampe and members of the organization’s board to discuss governance, new opportunities for artists and the Aruba cultural future. Eman also holds the culture portfolio.
UNOCA reports progress on annual accounts
The meeting addressed UNOCA’s work to bring its annual accounts up to date after a backlog that extended to 2021. Eman said the organization is now current and expressed support for continued innovation and new opportunities in Aruba’s arts and cultural sector.
The discussion focused on UNOCA’s organization, its future direction and the role it plays in supporting cultural development across the island.
Government encourages wider support for arts groups
Eman congratulated UNOCA on its 40th anniversary and the School of Arts on its 15th anniversary. He described both milestones as a chance to recognize work already completed while planning the next phase of cultural development.
The prime minister encouraged UNOCA to continue supporting non-governmental organizations that approach it with cultural projects. He also urged the organization to explore new opportunities for the School of Arts and for artists throughout Aruba.
The meeting did not announce a new funding program or formal policy decision. Its stated emphasis was on UNOCA’s governance progress, continued support for cultural organizations and creating room for artists and communities to develop new work.
