Aruba’s education authorities and MAVO schools are consulting on how to make review procedures more consistent while strengthening the MAVO curriculum and the pathways available to students.
Officials and schools examine review procedures
The Ministry of Education, the Department of Education Aruba and MAVO school directors and teachers are participating in consultations during September and October. Education Minister Gerlien Croes said a central issue is the procedure used when secondary-school decisions are reviewed or appealed.
The discussions aim to make those processes transparent, fair and uniform across Aruba’s MAVO schools. The consultations have not yet produced a final policy or a date for implementing changes.
MAVO curriculum and student pathways are also on the agenda
Participants are also considering curriculum improvements and how schools prepare students for their next step. Those options include continuing at EPI or HAVO, or moving into the labour market.
School leaders and teachers are expected to address day-to-day operational challenges, modern teaching methods and digitalization. The consultation forms part of the Learning Cities Aruba initiative, “Hunto nos tur ta crece.”
